TechChoice Parts now carries RhinoPac (AMS Automotive) new clutch kits for manual transmission vehicles. RhinoPac clutch kits include all the necessary parts to replace a worn out clutch, including new pressure plate, disc assembly, and release bearing. The clutch is well packaged in a nice looking box with quality written all over it. AMS has been providing quality clutch sets since 1987, and new RhinoPac clutch kits since 1996. If you can't find the clutch kit you need, please send us an e-mail or call, and we'll be happy to find it.
What does the Clutch do?
Very simply, the Clutch is the connection between the engine and the transmission.
There are two discs; the flywheel, which is mounted at the rear of the engine, and the clutch disc, mounted on the front of the transmission. The clutch pedal in the vehicle operates a cable controlling the separation of the two discs. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the discs separate. When the clutch pedal is not pressed, the two discs make contact. When touched together, the clutch disc transmits the power (rotation) of the engine to the transmission, which moves the vehicle.
The clutch will wear out with time, no getting around it. Experienced clutch operators can make a clutch last a long time, but ultimately, the friction beween the two discs will just wear it out. One or both surfaces will become smooth, and there will be no more 'bite' left.
In a pinch, it's been said that pouring Coke (the soft drink) between the clutch disc and flywheel will get you a little bit more life. Of course, that would be a very temporary fix.
